What is an eyelid lift?

When it comes to the upper eyelids, there are two main considerations in determining what needs to be done. One has to do with how much skin rests along the upper eyelid platform and the other has to do with how well the eyelid muscles are able to lift the upper eyelid platform. In some cases it is only one or the other, and in some, both need to performed at the same time.

How is an eyelid lift performed?


Depending on the nature of the upper eyelid condition, it may necessitate removal of skin and possibly fat or advancement of the muscle that lifts the eyelid, or both. These procedures can be performed under local anesthesia in the office or OR setting depending on the patient. Usually, both eyes are done at the same time. The patient will be asked to open and close their eyelids during the surgery to assess symmetry and balance .

How long does an eyelid lift last?

An eyelid lifting procedure, whether a blepharoplasty or ptosis repair, should have a permanent effect in most cases as it does involve actual removal of skin and/or advancement of the muscle. In most cases, it will never get as bad as it was before surgery. However, there are specific risk factors that make it more likely for the skin to get more redundant or the muscle to weaken over time and these include chronic rubbing of the eyes, daily contact lens use over many years, and sun exposure to the face.

How much does eyelid surgery cost in Anaheim California?

Many factors affect the cost of eyelid surgery, including which eyelids are operated on- upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. The approach necessary for a given patient can differ and this can affect the time of surgery which affects the cost. Where the surgery is performed is a consideration as well. A procedure performed cosmetically in the operating room vs. office can significantly affect the cost of the case. Furthermore, if more than 1 procedure is performed and part of the surgery is medically necessary, then this can offset the cost of surgery. Each individual patient is different.
